I’m convinced this town has everything you could possibly want in a Romantic Alaska Getaway. Glaciers, Fjords, Wildlife, Mountains, Cute Shops, Live Music, Coastal Town with Remote Cabins, Seafood, Boat Tours, Hikes and more.

This town has become a favorite destination for me.

Stops Along Your

Drive To Seward

stop thru for a coffee or dinner, hop in a sauna or take the tram up the mountain for a scenic view

Catch a concert at the Creekbend Cafe or check out the raging river that is 6 mile whitewater

Scenic Views-

There are ample scenic pull offs as you wind around the Turnagain Arm as well as roadside waterfalls, lakes, and hikes along your drive to Seward. It helps that the daylight lasts forever in the summer so you can still catch views along your drive even if you schedule an evening drive into your travel day.

All of my favorite Alaska Adventures took place in Seward so I’ve gotta put this town as my favorite Alaska town experienced yet!

Activities

Seward is one of my favorite stops for couples because you get that perfect combination of mountains, ocean, glaciers, and adventure. If you're planning an Alaska elopement, this is also an incredible place to build an entire wedding weekend around.

Whale Watching Fjord Tour


Seward is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, and one of the best ways to experience it is by boat.

Book a half-day or full-day cruise through Resurrection Bay and the fjords, where you can potentially see humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, sea lions, puffins and massive tidewater glaciers.

For an adventurous couple, I'd take it a step further and look into a private boat charter or private water taxi rather than automatically booking the biggest standard tour.

There are remote coves and wilderness areas around Resurrection Bay that can be reached by water, and water taxis can take you to secluded hiking areas and beaches. As well as Remote Cabins for rent along the coastline.

Imagine packing a picnic, hiring a private boat, finding a quiet stretch of coastline and spending the afternoon with basically nothing around you except mountains, ocean and wildlife.

That's my definition of a romantic Alaska getaway.

Hiking In Kenai Fjords National Park

Exit Glacier.

It's one of the easiest glaciers in the region to access by road, with trails leading from the visitor center toward the glacier. If you're feeling ambitious, the Harding Icefield Trail is a much more strenuous adventure with huge views.

Alaska SeaLife Center

The Alaska SeaLife Center is the only facility in Alaska that combines a public aquarium with marine research, education, and wildlife response. 

While primarily dedicated to marine research and education, the nonprofit Center is the only permanent marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation facility in the state.

The quirkiest thing worth noting

Seward has

the best gift shops

that I’ve seen in all of my Alaskan Travels so far. These are the shelves of cute mugs and socks at the freakin grocery store. You could get totally lost in some of the gift shops in downtown Seward with the sweetest mementos to remember your trip or gift to your friends when you get home.

Music

Seward has a vibrant music scene with concerts and festivals to explore.
